Large increase of urinary issues seen in cats due to recent wet weather

You are here: Home / Behaviour Tips / Large increase of urinary issues seen in cats due to recent wet weather

Is your cat urinating more? Is your cat having trouble urinating? Have you seen blood in the litter box?

With all this recent wet weather we are seeing an increased number of urinary issues in our cat friends. Weather can be a factor in the cause of Flutd such as rainy weather particularly in cats that refuse to use a litter box.

Stress is a huge factor in urinary issues in cats. Fear not we have some solutions:

  • Feliway Diffusers
  • Water fountains
  • Royal Canin Urinary diets
  • Medications; Zylkene
  • Extra litter trays especially in multi-cat households

FLUTD is more common in cats that have a lower water consumption, and in cats that are inactive and obese.  All these factors may relate, at least in part, to the frequency with which a cat urinates.  Avoidance of obesity and encouraging exercise may be of some help in preventing FLUTD, and as cats tend to drink very little the feeding of at least some tinned food rather than exclusively a dry cat food product will help to maintain a higher water intake.
